Game One
Crows 2, Lions 1
Starters: Cole Hamels @ Stephen Strasburg
At The Lion's Den, the Mohawk Valley fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Cole Hamels (1-1) finally bested his Mohawk Valley opposite, Stephen Strasburg (1-1), by the score of 2 to 1.
Hamels gave a fine effort for Spokane. He surrendered 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 1/3 innings. Spokane finished with just 4 hits in the victory.
Hamels got help from Tony Sipp who earned his 4th save. The loss was charged to Strasburg. He pitched 7 1/3 innings giving up only 3 hits and 1 walk.
Game Two
Lions 4, Crows 3 (17 innings)
Starters: Clayton Kershaw @ Garrett Richards
Designated hitter J.D. Martinez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Mohawk Valley Lions defeated the Spokane Hooded Crows in 17 innings 4 to 3 at The Lion's Den.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Mohawk Valley won the game in the 17th inning. Prince Fielder doubled. James Russell then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch. Erick Aybar then hit a deep fly, making Mohawk Valley victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Mohawk Valley finished with 15 hits while Spokane ended up with 12.
Drew Smyly (1-0) went 3 innings, allowing no runs for the victory. Russell (0-1) was the loser in relief. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 5 1/3 innings.
Game Three
Lions 4, Crows 2 (10 innings)
Starters: Yu Darvish @ Zack Greinke
Center fielder Andrew McCutchen had 2 base hits as the Mohawk Valley Lions beat the Spokane Hooded Crows in 10 innings by a score of 4 to 2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Finally, Mohawk Valley pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Prince Fielder led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Denard Span next to the plate and he laced a one-base hit. One out later, Daniel Robertson then hit a sacrifice fly.
J.D. Martinez was up next and he was walked intentionally. Ben Zobrist came to the plate and drew a walk to load the bases. Albert Pujols did his part to keep things going and banged out a single. Erick Aybar got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Mohawk Valley had 9 hits overall, while Spokane had 5.
Dellin Betances (1-0) went 2 innings, allowing no runs for the victory. Betances was helped out by Joe Smith who recorded his 3rd save. Luke Gregerson (0-1) took the loss in relief.
Game Four
Crows 7, Lions 2
Starters: Stephen Strasburg @ Cole Hamels
The Spokane Hooded Crows cruised to a 7 to 2 victory over the Mohawk Valley Lions at The Crows Nest.
Cole Hamels (2-1) was very good in the win. He allowed only 5 hits and 3 walks in 8 2/3 innings. Mohawk Valley was out-hit by Spokane, 12 hits to 5.
The loss was charged to Stephen Strasburg (1-2). He gave up 6 runs in 4 innings and saw his ERA jump from 1.10 to 3.54.
Game Five
Lions 4, Crows 3 (13 innings)
Starters: David Price @ Jesse Hahn
David Price retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Mohawk Valley Lions outscored the Spokane Hooded Crows in 13 innings 4 to 3.
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Mohawk Valley came out the victor in the 13th inning. After an out was recorded, Ben Zobrist drew a walk. Albert Pujols followed next and he ripped a base knock. Pujols took second on the throw. Cliff Pennington then drew a walk to load the bases. Yan Gomes came up and he hit a sacrifice fly. The Spokane offense proved no trouble in the bottom of the 13th.
The victory went to Fernando Abad (1-0), who went 1 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Tom Wilhelmsen recorded his 1st save. Yohan Flande (0-1) took the loss in relief. He pitched 3 innings and surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks.
Game Six
Lions 3, Crows 2 (15 innings)
Starters: Clayton Kershaw @ Garrett Richards
47,182 fans watched an exciting game at The Lion's Den. The Mohawk Valley Lions topped the Spokane Hooded Crows by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings. Mohawk Valley won it in the 15th inning. Chase Headley delivered a single. After an out was recorded, Luke Gregerson then fired a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross up the catcher. In any event, it got by him and was ruled a passed ball.
Andrew McCutchen then was walked intentionally. Carl Crawford came up and he stroked a single making Mohawk Valley the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Both teams totaled 9 hits on the night.
The winning pitcher was Drew Smyly (2-0), who allowed no runs in 4 innings. Gregerson (0-2) was the loser in relief. Mohawk Valley continued their winning ways, improving their postseason record to 8-4.
