Round One: Northwest 4, Brooklyn 3

Game recaps from the Strat-generated box scores. In this Round One matchup, the No. 1 Northwest Stars (117-45) had home-field advantage versus the No. 8 Brooklyn Dodgers (85-77).


Game One
Stars 6, Dodgers 3

Starters: Danny Duffy @ Jordan Zimmermann

The Northwest Stars bested the Brooklyn Dodgers by a 6 to 3 score at Star Dome.

Jordan Zimmermann (1-0) had a fairly solid outing. He surrendered 7 hits and 1 walk in 5 innings. Brooklyn had 12 hits in the game while Northwest had 6, but Northwest had the more timely hits. 

Zimmermann got help from Craig Kimbrel who was credited with his 1st save. Danny Duffy (0-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed Northwest 6 runs in 5 1/3 innings of work.


Game Two
Stars 3, Dodgers 2 (10 innings)

Starters: Kyle Hendricks @ Doug Fister

The Northwest Stars nipped the Brooklyn Dodgers in 10 innings 3 to 2 at Star Dome in a hard fought contest.

The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings. Finally, Northwest pulled the game out in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Brian Dozier smashed a bases-empty big-fly, resulting in a mighty exciting win for Northwest and the 49,416 home town fans in attendance. Northwest had only 6 hits for the game. 

Kevin Quackenbush (1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing no runs. Al Alburquerque (0-1) was the loser in relief.


Game Three
Dodgers 7, Stars 3

Starters: Marcus Stroman @ Roenis Elias

Miguel Cabrera jacked one out of the ballyard as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Northwest Stars 7 to 3 at Dodger Stadium.

Brooklyn came up with 5 runs in the 6th inning with the help of 5 hits. They would hold up as the winning runs. Brooklyn and Northwest each finished the night with 10 hits.

Bryan Shaw (1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing no runs. Marcus Stroman (0-1) took the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 6 hits in 5 innings.


Game Four
Dodgers 1, Stars 0

Starters: Jordan Zimmermann @ Joe Kelly

In a game for the baseball purist, Joe Kelly (1-0) and Jordan Zimmermann (0-1) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Brooklyn Dodgers finally emerged victorious over Northwest Stars, 1 to 0.

The game's only run was scored in the bottom of the 4th inning. Northwest was out-hit by Brooklyn, 8 hits to 2. Sean Doolittle was credited with his 1st save.


Game Five
Dodgers 12, Stars 8

Starters: Rick Porcello @ Danny Duffy

Second baseman Neil Walker went deep and had 4 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Northwest Stars 12 to 8 at Dodger Stadium.

Walker enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He slapped a single in the 1st inning, smacked a three-run homer in the 2nd inning and laced a base-knock in the 5th inning. Brooklyn managed 14 hits in their victory. 

The victory was credited to Al Alburquerque (1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Rick Porcello (0-1) took the loss. He gave up 6 runs and 6 hits in 1 1/3 innings.


Game Six
Stars 8, Dodgers 7 (12 innings)

Starters: Kyle Hendricks @ Doug Fister

Center fielder Adam Jones blasted 2 home runs and had 3 RBI as the Northwest Stars defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in 12 innings 8 to 7 at Star Dome.

The score was knotted at 7 after nine innings. Northwest came out the victor in the 12th inning. Kyle Seager blasted a solo shot giving Northwest the victory as 47,117 happy fans celebrated wildly. Northwest totaled 13 hits on the night. 

Kevin Quackenbush (2-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Jason Grilli (0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched two-thirds of an inning and surrendered 1 hit and no walks.


Game Seven
Stars 8, Dodgers 6 (11 innings)

Starters: Roenis Elias @ Jordan Zimmermann

Jordan Zimmermann struck out 10 batters at Star Dome as the Northwest Stars beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in 11 innings by the count of 8 to 6.

Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Northwest pulled the game out in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Alex Gordon got things rolling when he ripped a one-base hit, and an error was also committed. Michael Saunders followed next and he cracked a two-run shot making Northwest the winners and sending the 47,924 fans home happy. Northwest rapped out 12 hits for the night. 

The victory was credited to Marcus Stroman (1-1), who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Bartolo Colon (0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.
