Round One: Spokane 4, Rosehill 1

Game recaps from the Strat-generated box scores. In this Round One matchup, the No. 3 Rosehill Hornets (101-61) had home-field advantage versus the No. 6 Spokane Hooded Crows (88-74).


Game One
Crows 4, Hornets 1

Starters: Zack Greinke @ Jason Hammel

Zack Greinke went 8 strong innings as the Spokane Hooded Crows outscored the Rosehill Hornets 4 to 1.

Spokane scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits. James Loney got things going when he stroked a base-hit. Zach Walters stepped up to the plate and he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Martin Maldonado then doubled. D.J. Lemahieu came up and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Zack Cozart stepped into the box and hit a deep fly. Overall Spokane out-hit Rosehill 9 to 4.

Greinke (1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 1 run. Greinke got relief help from Tony Sipp who gained credit for his 1st save. Jason Hammel (0-1) suffered the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings.


Game Two
Crows 4, Hornets 0

Starters: Clayton Kershaw @ Jon Niese

James Loney had 2 base hits and Clayton Kershaw whitewashed Rosehill on 3 hits at Windsor Park, where the Spokane Hooded Crows beat the Rosehill Hornets by the score of 4 to 0.

Kershaw (1-0) dominated Rosehill hitters. He gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.

Jon Niese (0-1) was tagged with the loss.


Game Three
Hornets 1, Crows 0

Starters: Masahiro Tanaka @ Cole Hamels

Martin Prado had 2 base hits and Masahiro Tanaka allowed just 2 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the scoreboard for Spokane at The Crows Nest as the Rosehill Hornets beat the Spokane Hooded Crows by the count of 1 to 0.

Tanaka (1-0) was simply too much for the Spokane batters. He allowed only 2 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Rosehill had only 4 hits for the night.

Cole Hamels (0-1) was the loser. 


Game Four
Crows 3, Hornets 1

Starters: Wily Peralta @ Zack Greinke

Zack Cozart had 2 base hits as the Spokane Hooded Crows topped the Rosehill Hornets by a score of 3 to 1 at The Crows Nest.

Spokane scored 2 runs in the decisive 3rd inning when they had 3 base hits. That was all the runs Zack Greinke (2-0) needed. Rosehill threatened in the 9th but Spokane was able to put down the rally.

Tony Sipp was credited with his 2nd save. Wily Peralta (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 2/3 innings. 


Game Five
Crows 2, Hornets 0

Starters: Jason Hammel @ Jesse Hahn

At The Crows Nest, the Spokane faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Jesse Hahn (1-0) finally bested his Rosehill counterpart, Jason Hammel (0-2), by the score of 2 to 0.

Spokane scored 2 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. Adam Eaton opened up the inning nicely when he laced a base-knock. Scott Van Slyke was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Travis Snider then banged out a single. Juan Uribe was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.

James Loney stepped into the box and slapped a one-base hit. Kyle Blanks added to the outburst and singled. Yasmani Grandal came next and he drew a walk to load the bases. D.J. Lemahieu got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Rosehill made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Tony Sipp was credited with his 3rd save. The loss was charged to Hammel. He gave up 4 hits and 1 walk in 6 2/3 innings.
