Jones was unconscious out there. While Wilmington pitching was serving softballs up there for him to hit, the Wilmington fans were serving up some hardball barbs when he entered the batter's box. But he just used it as fuel for the fire. He stroked a one-base hit resulting in a run in the 1st inning, bombed a two-run dinger in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run in the 9th inning. Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Wilmington could not get the win.

The victory went to Madison Bumgarner (1-0) who went 5 2/3 innings, allowing 5 runs. Bumgarner got relief help from Craig Kimbrel who gained credit for his 3rd save. Matt Cain (0-1) suffered the loss.

'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've paid off,' Jones said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on it.'
