Round One: Mohawk Valley 4, Spokane 2

Game recaps from the Strat-generated box scores. In this series, the No. 3 Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions (98-64) had home-field advantage versus the No. 6 Spokane Hooded Crows (90-72).

Game One
Crows 6, Lions 1

The Spokane Hooded Crows put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 6th inning and easily topped the Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions; the final score was 6 to 1.

Clayton Kershaw (1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for Spokane. He allowed 10 hits and no walks in 8 innings. Spokane totaled 8 hits on the night.

David Price (0-1) was the losing pitcher. Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 9 batters in 6 innings.



Game Two
Lions 7, Crows 4 (11 innings)

Yasmani Grandal had 2 base hits at Van Slyke Field as the Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions beat the Spokane Hooded Crows in 11 innings 7 to 4.

The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Mohawk Valley came out the victor in the 11th inning. After two outs Chase Headley jump-started the rally as he drew a walk. Adam Laroche stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk. Nolan Reimold then belted a three-run homer resulting in an exciting win for Mohawk Valley and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Mohawk Valley had a total of 10 hits for the game.

Joe Nathan (1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning.The loss was charged to Craig Stammen (0-1) in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 2 hits in 1 1/3 innings.


Game Three
Crows 6, Lions 3

The Spokane Hooded Crows bested the Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions by a 6 to 3 score at The Crows Nest.

Mohawk Valley was unable to recover after Spokane went ahead in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Carlos Pena led off and got things going when he drew a walk. Chris Getz stepped up to the plate and he smacked a single. Zack Cozart was the next batter, but he struck out. Norichika Aoki followed next and he doubled. Andre Ethier came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly. Angel Pagan dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.  Spokane finished with 11 hits in the victory.

Trevor Cahill (1-0) went 5 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Cahill got relief help from David Hernandez who gained credit for his 1st save. Yu Darvish (0-1) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 4 walks in 5 1/3 innings.


Game Four
Lions 4, Crows 3

The Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions and the Spokane Hooded Crows locked up in an exciting one-run game at The Crows Nest. The final score was the Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions 4, the Spokane Hooded Crows 3.

C.C. Sabathia (1-0) pitched a fine game. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 6 1/3 innings. Mohawk Valley had a total of 10 hits for the game.

Sabathia got help from Joe Nathan who was credited with his 1st save. Clayton Kershaw (1-1) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 7 2/3 innings and surrendered 8 hits and 5 walks.


Game Five
Lions 4, Crows 2

David Price didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning as the Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions outscored the Spokane Hooded Crows 4 to 2.

Price (1-1) was very good in the win. He surrendered only 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Price recorded 10 strikeouts. The left-handed Price lost his no-hit bid when Geovany Soto singled with one out in the 6th inning. Mohawk Valley had 7 hits for the night.

Koji Uehara recorded the save, his 1st. Mat Latos (0-1) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 6 hits in 6 innings.

'Everything felt great' Price said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

 
Game Six
Lions 6, Crows 5

Will Venable cleared the bases with his grand slam as the Mohawk Valley Crimson Lions defeated the Spokane Hooded Crows 6 to 5 at Van Slyke Field.

Mohawk Valley came up with 5 runs in the 5th inning when they came up with 4 base hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Venable who made the crowd happy when he emptied the bases with a grand slam home run. For the game Mohawk Valley out-hit Spokane 10 to 6.

Derek Holland (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings in relief of Stephen Strasburg. Holland got relief help from Tom Wilhelmsen who gained credit for his 1st save. The loss was charged to Craig Stammen (0-2) in relief.
