MMDA League History Update 2023

It's been three years since I've updated the all-time MMDA manager register.

When I got back into this Blogger user interface, I was immediately reminded why. It's impossible to work with HTML tables in this program. So I created a cool looking table in Excel and pasted a screen grab here.

Active MMDA Managers Ranked By Winning Percentage

The 162-game rate section captures what MMDA standings would look like if the all-time data was telescoped to a single season.

I incorporated all manager data to which I have access. It dates back to 1995 in several cases, though my understanding is that several MMDA managers' tenures predate that season.

I also spent some time updating team batting, pitching and fielding statistics and applying ballpark adjustments to them. This data is comprehensive only from 2002 to 2023, though I lack park factors for 2002 and 2003.

Here I will present some top 10 rankings that include team achievement in 2021, 2022 or 2023.

.750 Rosehill, 2019
.750 Brooklyn, 2015
.748 Vegas, 2023
.748 Wilmington, 2013

Other notable stuff (since 2002)

Murrieta set the record for team isolated slugging with a .269 mark in 2022. Wilmington ranks third all time with a .251 mark in 2021 and Rochester fourth at .244 in 2022.

• The 2022 Murrieta Mustangs also own the league record with 748 extra-base hits and a SLG+ at 125. The latter is team slugging compared with league slugging. It is not park adjusted, though my numbers have Murrieta with a 129 park factor in 2022.

• In 2023 both Goldenrod and Mohawk Valley recorded hits at a rate 13% higher than league average to rank fourth and fifth since 2002. This AVG+ score is not park adjusted.

• In 2021, Wilmington compiled a .408 secondary average, which is a league record. Secondary average essentially measures batter productivity when not hitting singles.

Spokane set the top two marks for pitcher strikeout rate with 29.1% in 2021 and 27.6% in 2022. Owing to the rising tide that is strikeout rate, those rates compared with league rates are fifth and 10th best since 2002. The top SO+ for pitching is 2009 Northeast at 133.

• The 2021 Crows also set the league standard with a 20.8 K-BB%.

Mohawk Valley this season set a league record for lowest walk rate (6.2%) and WHIP (1.033). Because walk rate is more or less stable over time, the BB+ of 120 is a league record. Hit rates are lower today, so the Lions' WHIP+ is fifth best in the sample.
