Game One
Crows 4, Nighthawks 3
Starters: Mark Buehrle @ Clayton Kershaw
49,923 fans watched an exciting game at The Crows Nest. The Spokane Hooded Crows ended a long winless drought and topped the Lake County Nighthawks by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
The game was won by Spokane with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Chris Colabello was hit by a pitch. Juan Uribe stepped up to the plate and he was hit by a pitch. After an out was recorded, Joc Pederson then slapped a single to load the bases. D.J. Lemahieu followed next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Lake County threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Carson Smith (1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Smith was helped out by Roberto Osuna who recorded his 4th save. Kevin Siegrist (0-1) was the loser in relief.
Game Two
Nighthawks 2, Crows 0
Starters: Sonny Gray @ Zack Greinke
Sonny Gray went 7 solid innings at The Crows Nest where the Lake County Nighthawks beat the Spokane Hooded Crows 2 to 0.
Lake County went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner on 2 base hits. That early run support was enough for Gray (3-0) and Lake County. Wade Davis, after tossing a perfect ninth, was credited with his 5th save.
Zack Greinke (2-2) ended up with the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 6 hits in 8 2/3 innings.
Game Three
Nighthawks 6, Crows 5
Starters: Jesse Hahn @ Noah Syndergaard
Matt Holliday had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Lake County Park as the Lake County Nighthawks beat the Spokane Hooded Crows 6 to 5.
Noah Syndergaard (1-1) pitched well enough to earn the win. He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 6 1/3 innings. Syndergaard racked up 8 strikeouts. Spokane threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Syndergaard got help from Wade Davis who earned his 6th save. Jesse Hahn (2-1) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.
Game Four
Crows 3, Nighthawks 2
Starters: Clayton Kershaw @ Jose Quintana
The Spokane Hooded Crows edged the Lake County Nighthawks at Lake County Park by the score of 3 to 2.
Spokane had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 3rd inning with the help of 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Scott Van Slyke started the rally when he slapped a single. Alex Rodriguez stepped up next and he doubled. Chris Colabello followed, but he was set down on strikes. Juan Uribe came up and he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Spokane out-hit Lake County for the game, 10 hits to 6.
Clayton Kershaw (3-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing 2 runs. Roberto Osuna got the save, his 5th. Jose Quintana (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
Game Five
Crows 5, Nighthawks 1
Starters: Zack Greinke @ Mark Buehrle
Zack Greinke racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts at Lake County Park where the Spokane Hooded Crows beat the Lake County Nighthawks by the score of 5 to 1.
Greinke (3-2) was tremendous on the mound for Spokane. He surrendered only 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Spokane managed 10 hits in their victory.
Mark Buehrle (1-1) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners, giving up 9 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.
Game Six
Nighthawks 4, Crows 1
Starters: Sonny Gray @ Cole Hamels
Adrian Beltre had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at The Crows Nest as the Lake County Nighthawks beat the Spokane Hooded Crows by the count of 4 to 1.
Lake County scored 3 runs in the decisive top of the 4th inning when they came up with 3 base hits. After an out was recorded, Joey Votto keyed the rally when he drew a walk. Ryan Raburn followed and he doubled. Adonis Garcia struck out, unable to help the rally. Beltre came up and he doubled driving home two runs. Eduardo Escobar stepped into the box and delivered a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Spokane was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Sonny Gray (4-0) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Wade Davis was credited with his 7th save. Cole Hamels (1-2) took the loss.
Game Seven
Nighthawks 4, Crows 1
Starters: Noah Syndergaard @ Clayton Kershaw
Eduardo Escobar cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at The Crows Nest where the Lake County Nighthawks beat the Spokane Hooded Crows by the score of 4 to 3.
Lake County scored 2 runs in the decisive top of the 5th inning when they came up with 3 base hits. They ended up being the winning runs. Spokane threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The winning pitcher was Noah Syndergaard (2-1) who allowed 2 runs in 6 2/3 innings. Wade Davis earned the save, his 8th. Clayton Kershaw (3-3) took the loss. He struck out 11 batters in 7 innings despite losing the game.
