Round One: Brooklyn 4, Death Valley 2

Game recaps from the Strat-generated box scores. In this Round One matchup, the No. 2 Brooklyn Dodgers (99-63) had home-field advantage versus the No. 7 Death Valley Drivers (86-76). 

Game One
Dodgers 4, Drivers 3

49,904 fans were treated to a fine game at Dodger Stadium as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Brooklyn Dodgers won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Death Valley was unable to claim the lead after Brooklyn went ahead in the 6th inning plating an isolated run utilizing 2 base hits. Death Valley had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Justin Masterson (1-0) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Masterson got help from Jason Grilli who earned his 1st save. Tyson Ross (0-1) was hit with the loss.

Game Two
Drivers 6, Dodgers 5

Clay Buchholz (Drivers) and Bartolo Colon (Dodgers) started the game, but the box score is lost to the sands of time.

Game Three
Drivers 7, Dodgers 3

Albert Pujols smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Drivers Stadium as the Death Valley Drivers beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 7 to 3.

It was a good day for Death Valley thanks to Pujols. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 1st inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 5th inning. Brooklyn was out-hit by Death Valley, 13 hits to 9.

Alex Cobb (1-0) went 7 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Mariano Rivera earned the save, his 2nd. Joe Kelly (0-1) was the loser. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 4 hits and no walks.

Game Four
Dodgers 3, Drivers 2

Center fielder Mike Trout had 3 base hits as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Death Valley Drivers by a score of 3 to 2.

Brooklyn had 2 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning. The key at-bat was by Alfonso Soriano who quieted the home crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Death Valley threatened in the 9th but Brooklyn was able to put down the rally.

Francisco Liriano (1-0) went 6 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Joaquin Benoit was credited with his 1st save. Chris Tillman (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

Game Five
Dodgers 10, Drivers 1

Miguel Cabrera went deep and had 4 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Death Valley Drivers 10 to 1 at Drivers Stadium.

Cabrera had a big day against Death Valley. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 2nd inning, ripped a one-base hit bringing home two baserunners in the 7th inning and doubled which brought home a run in the 9th inning. Brooklyn had 14 hits overall, while Death Valley had 6.

Justin Masterson (2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing no runs. Tyson Ross (0-2) suffered the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 4 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

Game Six
Dodgers 6, Drivers 5

46,995 fans watched an exciting game at Dodger Stadium. The Brooklyn Dodgers topped the Death Valley Drivers by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

Brooklyn started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the first scoring 2 runners on 4 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Neil Walker who brought the crowd to their feet when he doubled scoring two baserunners. Death Valley threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The winning pitcher was Bartolo Colon (1-0) who allowed 1 run in 8 innings. Colon got relief help from Sergio Romo who gained credit for his 1st save. Gerrit Cole (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 6 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
