Strasburg Delivers Mohawk Valley's Second-Ever No-Hitter

UTICA, N.Y.--Mohawk Valley starter Stephen Strasburg saved the best for first in 2014. Making his season debut on the road at Spokane, the righthander held the Hooded Crows hitless in a 6-0 Lions win. He walked four and struck out four, throwing 124 pitches.

Strasburg's gem is the second no-hitter in Mohawk Valley franchise history. Lefthander Paul Maholm threw the club's first no-no against the Rochester Pilots on Sept. 22, 2008.

Stephen Strasburg (1-0) was on top of his game in Spokane as he tossed a beauty
of a no-hitter against the Spokane Hooded Crows. The Mohawk Valley Lions won
by a score of 6 to 0.

Although disappointed to see the hometown team lose, the fans certainly were
appropriately impressed with the dominating, no-hit performance of Strasburg.
He walked 4 Spokane batters. The tension was mounting with every inning
after the 6th. Strasburg appeared oblivious himself to the mounting history
until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow himself one deep sigh
and a slow trip around the mound. Mohawk Valley banged out 12 hits on the
night.

Clayton Kershaw (1-1) was the loser. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7
hits and 2 walks. 'Strasburg pitched one heck of a game!' Matt Eddy said.
'He didn't get away with any bad pitches because he just didn't throw any bad
pitches. What a performance!'
